Use the criminal division while the calendar is unavailable

Colusa Superior Court’s current website posts that the Online Calendar Portal is temporarily unavailable until further notice. For limited information about a criminal case, call 530-458-5149, option 4. The criminal division says a deputy clerk can help with such matters as a court date, fines or whether a warrant exists. Use the case number if you have it; a portal outage is not a no-record result.

The court describes an online index with case type, charges, filing date, events and dispositions. Those entries are useful for identifying a case, but they are not the complete filed documents. For a copy of a plea, minute entry, judgment or dismissal, use the clerk’s copy procedure. Match names and dates carefully before drawing conclusions about another person.

Make a specific copy request

Colusa accepts criminal-file copy requests in person or by mail. Name each document and provide the case number, parties’ names and approximate document dates. If you do not know the case number, supply the party’s full name, approximate case date and other locating information. Identify whether the recipient needs certification instead of ordering an ordinary copy and discovering it is insufficient.

The clerk’s criminal instructions give 532 Oak Street, Colusa, CA 95932. Confirm the destination for your file when contacting the criminal division. The court also has a Main Courthouse at 547 Market Street; do not confuse that location, or the county government’s address, with the criminal-copy mailing instructions.

Include the page, search and certification charges

The criminal division publishes copies at $0.50 per page, plus $40 for each certification if needed. When the case number is unknown, it lists an additional $15 search fee per name. For example, ten pages with one certification cost $45 before any name-search charge. A request involving several certified items may cost more than one certification, so specify the documents and obtain a total.

For a mailed request, include a self-addressed stamped envelope and a check or money order payable to Colusa Superior Court. The court allows you to write a not-to-exceed amount on the check so it can calculate the actual cost and send a receipt with the copies. Agree on an adequate ceiling rather than treating an arbitrary amount as a flat fee; do not send cash.

A two-week calendar cannot answer an older-case search

The calendar page describes a rolling view of the next two weeks of hearings. Even when the service is restored, it will not function as a historical criminal-history search. An older case, a completed case or an unscheduled matter can be absent. If you have a hearing notice, use that notice and the clerk to confirm your appearance rather than assuming the online absence cancels it.

For a missing scheduled appearance, the criminal division directs people to check with the clerk at 532 Oak Street. Keep the case number and date of the notice when asking for the time and department. The outage notice has no promised restoration date, so a phone inquiry is the practical current alternative.

Inspection does not open confidential parts of the file

The court allows public review of filed cases but excludes confidential material, including police reports, probation reports and documents protected by law. Request the particular public order you need rather than assuming access to every attachment. The copy instructions do not publish a fixed turnaround; ask about file availability and delivery if you have a deadline.

Crime reports and citations belong with the agency

The county Sheriff’s Records Unit processes crime reports and citations, a separate task from the Superior Court clerk’s criminal-file service. Use an incident number, incident date and location to describe an agency report. The Records Unit’s page does not establish that every report is public or provide a universal copy price, so confirm release eligibility and cost with that office. The court’s $0.50 page rate should not be transferred to a sheriff request.

The Records Unit also offers Live Scan by appointment at 530-458-0234 or 530-458-0233. That is fingerprint collection, not a way to purchase unrestricted histories about other people. If you need a licensing check, use the referring agency’s instructions and recipient information before scheduling the service.

For your own statewide history, use DOJ record review

California DOJ’s own-record review is a different product from Colusa court copies. California residents use Live Scan form BCIA 8016RR and pay a $25 DOJ processing fee plus the fingerprint provider’s charge; a DOJ fee waiver may be available. Third-party personal-history requests are not authorized. If the returned record is inaccurate, submit the included BCIA 8706 challenge with supporting evidence. Ask the Colusa clerk for a needed disposition to support the correction.
